WEC 36 Pre-Fight Predictions
-
No B.S. I think this is one of the illest cards I’ve seen in a long time! Two championship fights, and a bunch of other fights that could be main events. What more can I say. Faber, Pulver, Brown, Mccoullogh, Paulo, Sonnen, Garcia, Cerrone!!!!!!! I’m telling you, this one even has some under-card fights that the world should see, namely the Brookins vs. Aldo fight. These are some of the next dudes. This card is stupid! I really can’t wait.
Main Event
Mike Thomas Brown (17-4-2) vs. Urijah “California Kid” Faber (21-1)
Both Brown and Faber are world-class fighters in the 145 pound division. Urijah has been the most prolific American featherweight in recent memory, and Mike Brown is widely considered the number 1 contender. Both fighters have faced top-notch competition; however, Faber has been more active amassing a well known 5-fight WEC tear. Look for the “California Kid” to keep Brown on his heels with unrelenting pressure, and find a way to win by submission or dominating a 5-round judge’s decision.
RUFF
This will be another epic bout. These are the classes top cats. But the Cali Kid just is too all around “badder than a mug”. Faber is gonna be in buzz saw mode, like always! Urijah stays champ.Chael Sonnen (21-9-1) vs. Paulo “Ely” Filho (16-0)

The first time these two guys fought ended in controversy, this time around should be more decisive. Chael was controlling the first fight with straight punches and impressive takedowns. Once on the ground, Sonnen was doing a good job keeping Filho smothered and taking damage until he left his arm out for the Brazilian to grab. Filho capitalized and secured a tight armbar, and the referee jumped in before Chael had a chance to tap. Since then, Paulo has undergone rehab for drug addiction, this being his first fight in nearly 11 months. The weigh-ins provided a candid view of both fighter’s mental states preparing for this fight: Sonnen was a shredded 185, Paulo was a bloated 192. Filho’s undefeated record will probably be broken tonight by a multifaceted and calculated Sonnen assault.
RUFF
Sonnen was whopping his ass! And he did NOT tap. He can do the same thing. And I think he will. Plus Paulo had some tummy issues. Sonnen
Leonard “Bad Boy” Garcia (11-3) vs. Jens “Little Evil” Pulver (24-9-1)
Leonard Garcia is looking to put his recent stumbles behind him, and re-ignite his rise up the lightweight rankings. Meanwhile, “Little Evil” jumps back up to 155 after his last outing, a competitive 5 round decision loss to Urijah Faber for the featherweight belt. Pulver has far more experience than the Texan Garcia, and will use his craftiness and great chin to his advantage. Leonard is going in to prove he is more the more tenacious and exciting fighter, and will have the perfect opponent to showcase all his skills. With Garcia shaking this year’s legal woes and a second chance in the big show, more is riding on the line for him. While anything can happen in this fight, Leonard should be able to overpower Jens and win a decision.
RUFF
I love Lil’ Evil. But I don’t know if he’s ready for these youngsters. Garcia is gonna get him.Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (8-0) vs. “Razor” Rob McCullough (16-4)

This is a very interesting matchup against a young undefeated prospect from Albuquerque, and the former WEC lightweight champ from Huntington Beach, CA. Cowboy has stopped all 8 of his fights by submission, 6 in the first round. Razor Rob may have the edge in striking; however, Cerrone has a more all-around skill set. The weigh in showed Cowboy slightly fatigued by the weight cut, but he will surely be coming in much heavier and more comfortable tonight. McCullough didn’t looked as ripped as we’ve seen him in the past, so we may not see a full 15 minutes from these guys. This one will most likely end with a Cowboy Cerrone submission.
RUFF
I think Cowboy will submit anyone, and everyone every time! He’s crazy with it. Cerrone Armbar.Jonathan Brookins (8-2) vs. Jose Aldo (10-1)

Exciting Lightweight prospect Jonathan Brookins faces his toughest test to date in his WEC debut against BJJ Blackbelt Jose Aldo. Brookins earned his shot with his first fight at featherweight, a 2-minute annihilation of well-known Texas fighter Jose Santibanez. Jose Aldo is best known for his last fight, a 2nd round TKO over “Baby Nogueria” in the WEC in June. Brookins towers over Aldo with a 4-inch height advantage and extra-long wingspan. The winner of this match may be one fight away from a featherweight title shot, so no doubt both Faber and Brown will be watching closely. Look for Jonathan to steal the show with a ferocious mauling, ending with the Brookins-patented back flip off the top of the cage.
RUFF
Brookins is on some NEXT GENERATION styles! This dude is big as hell, a phenomenal athlete, and stronger than most 70 pounders. I know Aldo is a beast, but he ain’t ready for Brook! Brookins by TKO.Rani Yahya (11-4) vs. Yoshiro Maeda (23-5-2)
Yoshiro Maeda is coming off of a tough TKO loss to WEC bantamweight king Miguel Torres in June. Yahya is trying to shake off a few losses of his own, both to respectable opposition. This is the classic match up between striker and grappler: Yahya will be looking for a ground fight and submission, while Maeda favors the TKO and knockouts. Yoshiro Maeda has been fighting better opposition for longer, and will use his experience advantage to stop Rani early, probably in brutal fashion.
RUF
Maeda is just too all around tough for Yahya. Meada’s submission game is no bullshit. And thats Yahya’s only shot. Maeda is gonna punch him up. Maeda by TKO.
