Frank Mir is Everywhere.
-
While watching the shit-ton of Mixed Martial Arts programming this past Wednesday (WEC 37 & Both Semi-Final Episodes of The Ultimate Fighter), an epiphany struck me. Frank Mir is everywhere.
Now before we get started let’s settle one thing, we have immense amounts of respect for Frank Mir. Honestly, a few years ago most people thought he was just an over-inflated, over-hyped heavyweight champ who didn’t deserve the belt (sound familiar to any other heavyweight champs?) But as a man, Frank Mir has gone through more the past few years, than anyone would wish to go through in an entire lifetime and for that the man deserves mad respect. In 2004, just a few months after snapping Tim Sylvia’s arm to win the UFC’s heavyweight gold, Mir was in a brutal motorcycle accident that shattered his leg and threatened his chances of ever fighting again. Lucky for us, Mir did step back into the Octagon; although it wasn’t without reservations. After losses to Maricio Cruz and Brandon Vera and also being called a ‘failure as a man‘ by his wife, Mir was in a polar opposite position from where he was just a couple years earlier. But after back to back wins in the UFC, the most recent coming against now Heavyweight Champ Brock Lesnar, Mir is now poised to cement himself back into the mix as he is slated to throw-down with Interim Heavyweight Champ Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira at Ultimate 2008 in just a few weeks.
Now back to the epiphany. As we all watched Miguel Torres tekken-kick his way to victory at WEC 37, did any one take notice of who was providing color commentary? That’s right Frank Mir. And if you’re like any other die-hard MMA fan who would do nothing but sit home on a Wednesday night and watch four hours of combat sports, then you probably had your thumb fastened to the remote ready to flip to Spike when the WEC event was over. Now when you flipped to Spike to tune in to The Ultimate Fighter did you think that the space-time-continuum had collapsed? Because I did. Now, I’m no rocket scientist but how in the world can a man be in two places at once. I don’t know how, but Frank Mir does.
After taking my television apart and realizing that indeed, Frank Mir was not trapped inside of T.V., I was informed of a little phenomenon called taping. While crying over my now dissassembled T.V. I just had to accept the fact that Frank Mir is everywhere. The man has done it all, on wednesday night alone he did color commentary for WEC 37, coached on the Ultimate Fighter, did promos for the newest Call of Duty on Spike, his mug is on the newest issue of FIGHT! magazine and somehow found way to creep into my computer as well as his face was placed on banner-ads for the great site MMAWarehouse. How does he do it? No one knows.
While Mir won’t give away his secrets, the man is making great strides both in and out of the Octagon, and for that we’d like give Mir some made props. But, be on alert Frank Mir is everywhere. Under your couch? Frank Mir. Behind your car? Frank Mir? In bed with your girlfriend? Frank Mir.
