If you haven’t read the headlines about this past weekend UFC 91 event featuring Brock Lesnar and Randy “The Natural” Couture then thank you once again from crawling out underneath the rock you live under to grace us with your presence. In our prefight predictions we ended up going 5-1 on the night which isn’t to bad, hey it’s better than the NEW UFC heavyweight champions record (3-1, Yeah Lesnar won if you didn’t know by now). If you wanna catch all the fights you can head over here and watch them courtesy of our friends over at Cage Potato. Anyways, lets get down to the action and see how we did.

Lesnar def. Couture

Lesnar def. Couture

Brock Lesnar came into this fight as a 275 lbs. freight train with one thing in site, gold. I’ll admit that I’m a Lesnar fan but I still have a place in my heart for Couture. The match started out with them going straight to the clutch. It looks like randy is already having some tough time with the 45 lb difference between them and can’t quite get Lesnar on the ground. You can hear the crowd chanting Randy!, Randy! and even the announcers say it’s almost deafening. Lesnar eventually gets on top of randy and begins to smother him. Lesnar looks winded near the end of the round as Couture tries to take the big guy down but the bell sounds. I give the first round to Lesnar.

Alright, after a quick breather we are back to the action. Not going for the clinch now the fighters exchange a few punches and Lesnar rocks Couture with an elbow that sends him staggering back. In tru brock fashion he attempts to tackle randy but ends up pushing him into the cage. Lesnar gets cut about the eye by one of Randy’s punches but isn’t enough to take the big man down. Lesnar lands a punch off of Couture’s temple which sends him to the mat. Lesnar is now on top of randy delivering his patented Hammer-fist until the ref stops in and calls it.

Two things I want to say about this fight is 1) I think Lesnar has attempted to finish every opponent in the UFC by way of Hammerfist, can this be considered a super move like from is WWE days? 2) Did you happen to catch his post-fight interview in the cage?  Apparently, when your that big and have the UFC Heavyweight belt, you can actually make God bless himself.  If you missed it, have a look.

Florian def. Stevenson

Florian def. Stevenson

The co-main event of the night was between Joe “Daddy” and K Flo, wait a second are those rappers or fighters? Oh wait, I see now it’s Joe “Daddy” Stevenson and Kenny Florian… my bad. I’m gonna cut to the chase on this one. KFlo doesn’t want to be stuck within Joe’s takedown range so he picks his punches carefully. Stevenson gets in and scores the takedown but they get up and continue scrapping. Kenny is landing some vicious punches and kicks. Stevenson then lands a nice blow and Kenny retaliates with a takedown of his own and gets the full mount (that’s what she said) on Stevenson. Joe Daddy panics and give up his back, K Flo locks in the rear naked choke, guess what Mr. Stevenson, it’s Tapurary and rents due. Goodnight sweet prince.

Moving on to the other heavyweight bout on the card we have Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Josh Hendricks I was in the bathroom for this fight but basically here’s how it happened. Punch, punch, clinch, mat, Punch, Punch, Nap. Welcome to the UFC Mr. Hendricks, enjoy your nap.

Hazelett def. McCrory

Hazelett def. McCrory

One of my favorite fights of the night was Dustin Hazelett vs. Tamdan McCrory. First off you have Hazelett who comes out and… OH MY GOD THAT BEARD IS EPIC. It’s as if God himself came down and shaped it into that perfect symmetrical square! Anyways McCrory comes in straight from the Star Trek convention next door (seriously the dude looked kinda geeky) and we are ready to fight. McCrory wants to end this one fast and goes straight for the KO but luckily that beard is softening the punches a bit and Hazelett recovers. After missing a head kick they take it to the mat and Hazelett scores the omo plata. McCrory tries to pull out (that’s what she said, again) but Hazelett locks in the armbar and submits McCrory. Let’s just hope his arm isn’t to sore to power level his level 60 Warlock later during his World of Warcraft raid.

Finally the fight between Demian Maia and Nathan Quarry went by pretty fast. Maia plays around with the stand up game before shooting Quarry for the quick takedown. He eventually works his way past the guard and gets the mount. Quarry give up his back but blocks the choke… for awhile. Maia lands some punches to the face and when Quarry goes to block, the choke gets put on lock. Yeah, I rhymed so what… at least I am not kissing my opponents.
