UFC 100: Just around the corner

Lets the countdown begin. We are only a few months away from UFC 100 and we got some big rumors from some people over at InGameNow about what we could see on that card.

According to the rumors, UFC 100, expected to take place on July 4th, will put every title on the line. Assuming that the current Champions retain their belts between now and then, you can expect to see a card boast the likes of Lightweight Champion BJ Penn, Welterweight Champion Georges St.-Pierre, Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin, and Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira/Randy Couture (heavyweight title, obviously, still to be decided). This would be by far the biggest promotion any MMA organization has put on.

The really interesting thing is what happens when you dig a little deeper into the current state of the UFC.  Bj is the 55 champ, but wants to fight the 70 pound champ. And has held that title. Anderson is the 85 pound champ fighting in the 205 class, and could probably beat the 205 champ. Fuck it how about a battle royal where there is no weight classes! I’m brilliant… oh wait.. they already tried that, never mind.

    Smile? Anyone?

    Smile? Anyone?

While they make a very strong point that this would be one of the most epic nights of MMA glory ever, here is one of the major flaws we see with it. By having all of these premium fighters in one place you might not have enought talent to make and exciting UFC 101 and the earliest you’d see a title being put back on the line would be 102 or even 103. Also take into consideration that you’ve got a lot of egos and personas to try and keep under control all in one roof. I’m not bashing Dana White (the guy obviously knows what he’s doing), just curious to see how it will all play out. I will say this though, I can’t wait to see the payroll on this event!

I think you make a good point, the card itself would be AWESOME but what about the following PPV’s? Will be intersting to see what the UFC does at UFC 100.
