Emelianenko? More like SHMELLianenko
Mr. Fedor Emelianenko. No you’re not mistaken, that is Hall of Fame boxing trainer Freddy Roach calling out the “baddest man on the planet” and WAMMA heavy weight champ Fedor Emeliananko. Apparently Mr. Roach doesn’t to much respect Fedor’s 28-1 MMA record (the 1 loss coming by way of a cut) – - In a recent interview with SI.com Freddy had this to say about Emelianeko.
“He’s flat-footed, has no technique, but he can punch, that always helps. He’s accurate. He’ll follow you right to the floor, so he’s aggressive. But that aggressiveness can be used to our advantage, I think.”
With numerous world champion boxers under his belt most notably being the 5 division title holder Manny Pacquiao, it is safe to say Freddy Roach knows a thing or two about boxing. – - But did he really have to say “No technique?” – - Freddy Roach has been working with former UFC champion Andre Arlovski in his preparation for his upcoming WAMMA championship bout with Emelianenko Jan.24th in Anehiem California. Roach is said to have been one of Arlovski’s primary trainers in Arlovski’s destruction of IFL’s Ben Rothwell last July. After that he followed up with a KO over “Big Country” Roy Nelson in EliteXC:Heat this past October.
– - It’s enough to make one wonder if Arlovski chances of winning this thing have gone up dramatically? – - With the natural progression of the sport Arlosvski isn’t the only one seeking the advice of the world renown boxing coach. Roach’s LA Wildcard boxing gym has been visited by other UFC champions Anderson Silva ( “He’s not ready for Roy Jones. Jr said Roach”) and BJ Penn, whom Freddy called “the most gifted MMA fighter he’s worked with to date”. Roach even went as far as to say that he thinks Arlovski could even have a future in boxing.
“We’ll start off with a low-caliber opponent, I wouldn’t have 30 fights. I’d say five fights, then fight [Vitali or Wladimir] Klitschko.”
- – I’m pretty sure that means big slavic mo fo’s pretty much own the heavy weight divisions now days. Though I don’t really know the difference between a Belarusian and a Russian, that just makes the fight all that much more exciting for me. I’m just going to pretend I’m watching a fight for indepencence from the Soviet Union.
