It’s Back… The McRib
-
Oh, what a joyous time of the year it is when the Mc Rib makes it semi yearly migration back to local McDonald’s restaurants. I was driving home and was going to get some healthy chicken tacos at another restaurant when i saw a sign at McDonalds that said “It’s Back.. The McRib.” I came to a skreetching halt and pulled in. McRibs, for those of you that don’t know, are available for a limited time so you need to have them with the thought that each sweet and savory McRib may be your last. It is a cultural phenomenon known to people of many languages and has been mentioned on tons of TV shows including The Simpsons who devoted 1/2 of a show to its spoof sandwich known as Krusty Burger’s Ribwich. The McRib has a HUGE following. Tshirts, songs, ringtones, and websites galore glorify this sandwich.
No one knows what meat it is made of. McDonalds has suggested in 2006 that the meat comes from the boneless pig and the reason that they can’t offer it all year round is because the boneless pig farmers cannot sustain year round demand.
It is only around for one or two weeks out of the year so you need to get your fill while you can. I had my second McRib of the week today and someone suggested I put some baconnaise on it. While I love baconnaise, you don’t mess with perfection. As I was explaining this to someone, “You don’t mess with perfect and start putting stuff on a McRib. The only thing that could possibly make a McRib better…. is another McRib patty….” , and as such, the Double McRib was born.
It is simply a Big Mac style McRib sandwich: Bottom Bun, Rib Patty, Bottom Bun, Rib Patty, Top Bun. Not only is it good, but it allows you to enjoy double the amount of McRibs in the limited time they are available. God Bless you Ronald McDonald for this sandwich. Although we know not what meat is in it, we know that it is full of tasty goodness. It’s ribtacular!
