Shit’s Weak.

Yesterday’s press conferences for Saturday’s UFC 89 caused quite a stir. Not.  In an eerily cordial debate, Micheal Bisping and Chris Leben met each other with much respect and offered us little but childish quips.  The press conference’s highlights were when Bisping commented on Leben’s black painted nails and later when Leben responded to his earlier comments in which he called Bisping a “scaredy-cat.”  The relatively un-notable exchange was, in fact, notable because of its lack of publicity stunts.  We have become so accustomed to raucuous and immature pre-fight interviews (Think the Kimbo-Shamrock weigh in two weeks ago; Or think any Mike Tyson press conference, ever) that this conference gave us the sort of civility and respect that we have come to expect from the UFC.  While the UFC does catch quite a bit of heat, this press conference showed the respect for the sport of MMA that is present in this organization.  Now, only if others would follow suit…

The weak-sauce quotes from this conference were as follows:

Hey I’m a professional athlete. What am I doing out at four in the morning on Tuesday?

-Chris Leben, after being asked about changing his wild ways

Life wasn’t a box of chocolates for me either, but I don’t think that has anything to do with this. My mum and dad did what they could for me

-Micheal “The Count” Bisping, displaying his commonality with Forest Gump

Oh, and Brandon Vera and Keith Jardine were there. . .
